Introducing… my new cowboy boots! I was so excited I jumped up on the table.

I didn’t see them coming… but I sure love those scalloped edges!

The sled and his thermals.  He is so easy to please!!

Tonight we got real crafty at Young Womens making headbands:

I wish I could claim this as my own, but my talented sister Melanie made it for me.

This one is my favorite!  The fabric is light purple with tiny white dots.

New computer.

December 11, 2009

Honestly, the biggest perk from James’ work has been:

1.) His MacBook pro.  They just gave it to him when he started, and it was less than a year old.

2.) MY LAPTOP!  As of today, his lab is allowing an extended loan on a Dell laptop that no one is using.  It is less than two years old, and originally cost over $1200!

I’ve never really wanted a laptop, except for the wintertime, when I can work under the covers. So I’m so excited!

Last night while running, I was suddenly panicking.  What had I done!?

Feeling exhausted after just two miles, I realized that I had just signed up for the 1/2 marathon in Moab.

Oh no…. So now I find myself planning my runs better because I’m so terrified that I’ll end up on the loser bus.

(To be fair, I don’t really know if I’m going to racing yet, I find out in a couple of days)

December 6, 2009

I watched this 60 Minutes special a little while ago and found it fascinating.  This clip is only a few minutes long.

“Last year, Medicare paid $50 billion just for doctor and hospital bills during the last two months of patients’ lives – that’s more than the budget of the Department of Homeland Security or the Department of Education.”

I feel nervous.

November 20, 2009

I have a stupid fear of large predators -extinct or not- and could hardly believe my eyes when I saw this skull of an eight ton crocodile.

Honestly, it makes me a little ill just looking at it.

On a lighter note, I’m stoked to see New Moon tonight!

First Canyon Ride

November 8, 2009

Today we rode up Emigration Canyon for a 10 mile ride.  Considering the longest I’ve gone is 6 miles on a stationary bike, I was pretty proud.  And tired.   It also made me realize what a great bike we just bought (After riding on James’ bike, with his obvious concern of how I was taking care of it, I had a thought.  Some people have babies or adopt dogs.  We buy bikes)!

We ate a “healthful meal” as James called it, that night.  He has been wanting to make pizza on french bread for a while.  Also, I made a TON of spicy queso dip.  James was very happy.

The best part of the night was the homemade pizza sauce.  Basically I roasted grape tomatoes until they burst, with nearly 10 roasted garlic cloves.  Add fresh basil, salt, pepper, and a little olive oil, and you are good to go!

MMMM… the finished product.

For Halloween we went as Hon Solo and Princess Leia!  I made my costume out of sheet about two hours before wearing it.  I’ve never made anything with out a pattern, so I literally lied down and had James trace my body.  With brown wigs sold out, the best I could do was a very black wig, but it looked a lot better than my blond buns.

James is wearing his grandpa’s handmade gun holster.  He was really excited about that, holding his plastic blaster.

Quick draw!  I kept catching James doing this throughout the night.

See the resemblance?

I already know what I want to be next year: Cowboy/Indian theme.  Or, maybe we could both go as sexy storm troopers:

First Snow.

October 27, 2009

It has been snowing all day.  I’m not that thrilled about it- I don’t ski or snowboard, I hate driving when its wet, and I hate being cold.  We bought a heat dish a few days ago, and I move it from space to space so that it is aimed right at me.  Feeling the temperature drop in the last few days has me missing the fresh produce and sunshine from the community garden only 1 block away.  Here are some pictures I took while weeding.

It doesn’t look like much now- but this place truly is a little refuge from the noise and traffic of downtown.  I love it.

Pumpkin Carving

October 25, 2009

Fall 09 022Last night we carved pumpkins with our friends the Deiberts.  Here are the finished products:

Fall 09 016Isn’t this peeping tom pumpkin just amazing?  It reminds me of two years ago when we carved our first pumpkin together:

By the end of the night, all of our tools had broken, and Amber had resorted to using vise grips to finish carving.

Fall 09 008

Fall 09 006Well, looks like Adam had a lot of fun.  At least James was able to get out some of his tools.
